International Students
Looking to study in the UK?
Beginning a new chapter of study is a significant step, and moving to a new country can make the process feel even more daunting.
There are many important factors to consider beyond auditions and applications, including tuition fees, funding opportunities, living costs, accommodation, visa requirements, course structures, and choosing the right teacher or institution. Navigating these decisions can sometimes feel overwhelming, particularly when you are unfamiliar with the UK conservatoire system.
I offer guidance and support throughout this process, helping students and families understand their options, explore key considerations, and make informed decisions with confidence. Whether that involves arranging consultation lessons with prospective teachers, comparing courses, researching practical requirements, or simply discussing the realities of studying in the UK, we can work through the process together.
Studying abroad is a major investment and an important life decision. My aim is to make the journey as clear, manageable, and well-informed as possible, allowing you to focus on your musical development and future goals.
What does life after music college look like?
Life after music college can be exciting, rewarding, and full of opportunities, but it can also feel uncertain at times. The transition from student to professional musician is often one of the biggest adjustments a young musician will face.
While conservatoires and music colleges provide excellent musical training, many of the practical skills required to build a sustainable career are not always covered in detail. Understanding how to find work, manage finances, build professional relationships, market yourself effectively, and navigate the realities of freelance life often comes through experience.
Having spent ten years building a freelance portfolio career before moving into full-time orchestral work, I understand many of the challenges musicians face when starting out. I believe there is enormous value in learning from people who have experienced these transitions themselves and can offer honest, practical insight into the profession.
There is no single route to a successful career in music. However, with the right preparation, realistic expectations, resilience, and a willingness to create opportunities, it is possible to build a rewarding and sustainable professional life in music.

Why work with me?
Your instrumental teacher plays an invaluable role in developing your musicianship and preparing you for auditions. My role is different.
As someone who has studied at two UK conservatoires, built a freelance portfolio career for over ten years, and now performs full-time with The Hallé Orchestra, I offer practical guidance based on first-hand experience of the profession and the UK conservatoire system.
For international students and their families, there is often much more to consider than simply preparing an audition programme. Choosing the right conservatoire and teacher, understanding the differences between courses, navigating applications, planning consultation lessons, considering visas and relocation, understanding living costs, and preparing for life in the UK can all feel overwhelming.
My role is to help you navigate these decisions with confidence.
I offer both individual consultation sessions and structured support packages tailored to your personal goals and circumstances. Alongside application and audition guidance, I provide ongoing email support throughout the process, giving you a trusted point of contact whenever questions or concerns arise.
Rather than replacing your instrumental teacher, I work alongside the excellent musical training you are already receiving, helping you understand the wider picture and make informed decisions about your future.
Applying to study in another country is a significant investment for both students and their families. My aim is to make the process as clear, manageable, and well-informed as possible, allowing you to focus on what matters most- your musical development and future career.
